Environment Day Celebration 2024 - Department of Sociology

The Agricultural Research Centre, Anakkayam, a regional center for Malappuram district under Kerala Agricultural University, organized an Environmental Day celebration on 5th of June 2024 from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. The event welcomed 33 students from the first BA and MA Sociology classes of Noble Women’s College Manjeri, who were invited to participate in the festivities.

Dr. Abdussalam MP, head and assistant professor of the Department of Sociology, along with Miss Haritha CP, assistant professor from Noble Women’s College Manjeri, escorted the students to the Agricultural Research Centre for the program. The itinerary included a farm visit comprising activities such as plantation viewing and a grafting demonstration, providing students with hands-on experience in agricultural practices.

Dr. Musthafa, Professor and Head of the Department of Horticulture, Mrs. Shafna, Assistant Professor of the Department of Horticulture, and Mrs. Jaseena P, Assistant Professor, accompanied by other esteemed staff and employees of the Agricultural Research Centre,Anakkayam, graciously hosted the students with exemplary enthusiasm.

Program Highlights:

• Farm Visit: Students were given a guided tour of the Agricultural Research Centre to observe various agricultural practices firsthand.
• Plantation Seeing: Students observed different plantations, gaining insights into crop diversity and cultivation techniques.
• Grafting Demo: A demonstration on grafting techniques was conducted, providing practical knowledge on improving crop yields through plant propagation methods.
• Environmental Awareness Session: Mr. Jubail E, Farm Superintendent, conducted an informative session on environmental awareness. The session emphasized the importance of preserving natural resources and adopting eco-friendly farming practices.
• Sapling Plantation: As a symbolic gesture towards environmental conservation, students and officials participated in planting saplings of coconut trees. This activity underscored the role of individuals in contributing to green initiatives.

Dr. Abdussalam MP extended his gratitude to the organizers of the event, acknowledging their efforts in making the Environmental Day celebration a meaningful and impactful initiative. Overall, the event served as a platform for fostering environmental consciousness and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among participants.
