BASHEER DAY CELEBRATION 2024

On 5th July 2024, Friday, the Department of English, Noble Women's College celebrated Basheer Day in collaboration with the Department of Oriental Languages. The event began with an inspiring welcome speech by Ms. Nahal, the Secretary of the English Association.The presidential address was delivered by Mr. Madhusoodanan C. from the Department of Hindi, setting the tone for the day's proceedings. This was followed by the inaugural address given by Dr. U Saidalavi, the Principal of the college, who highlighted the significance of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer's contributions to literature and culture.Ms. Shameema K., the Head of the Department of English (in charge), offered a warm felicitation, acknowledging the efforts of all involved in organizing the event.

Further commendations were provided by Ms. Raihanath Paramban from the Department of Arabic, enriching the multicultural and multilingual essence of the celebration.A symposium was conducted, featuring insightful presentations by Ms. Basheera Sarqui from the Department of Journalism and Fathima Minnath, a V Semester BA English student. Their discussions delved deep into Basheer’s literary works and his impact on contemporary literature.The session included soulful songs related to Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, performed by students and teachers which added a melodious touch to the proceedings. This was followed by the screening of a short film titled "Poovambazham," directed by P. Balachandran.

The film offered a visual treat and an engaging portrayal of Basheer’s literary universe.Participants included students from the V Semester BA English, II Semester MA English, and all faculty members from the Departments of English and Oriental Languages. Their active involvement and enthusiasm contributed to the event's success.The celebration of Basheer Day was a fitting tribute to one of Kerala's literary giants, fostering a deeper appreciation of his work among students and faculty alike. The event was concluded with a sense of inspiration and a renewed commitment to exploring and promoting regional literature.
Anjoom Fathima, V Sem BSc Psychology won first prize in the carricature competition and Shibina. E won first prize in short story writing competition that was conducted as part of Basheer Day celebration.
