PREMCHAND DAY CELEBRATION

The Literary Club and Oriental Languages Department of Noble Women's College, Manjeri, observed Premchand Day on 8th August 2024 at 1:30 PM in the Seminar Hall. The event was organized to honor the life and literary contributions of Munshi Premchand, a pivotal figure in Hindi and Urdu literature. The program brought together students and faculty to reflect on Premchand's enduring legacy and to celebrate his influence on Indian literature. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mr. Sharafudheen AK, Head of the Malayalam Department. Ile emphasized the relevance of Premchand's works in today's socio-political context and the importance of such literary events in enriching the academic culture of the college.

Following the welcome address, Mr. Madhusoodanan C, Coordinator of the Literary Club, delivered the Presidential Address. He highlighted Premchand's unique storytelling ability that seamlessly blended realism with social commentary, making his works timeless. He encouraged the students to engage with Premchand's writings to gain a deeper understanding of Indian society during the pre-independence era.

The official inauguration of the event was carried out by Dr. U. Saidalvi, Principal of Noble Women's College. In his inaugural address, Dr. Saidalvi commended the initiative by the Literary Club and Oriental Languages Department to celebrate Premchand's legacy. He underscored the importance of integrating literary appreciation into the educational curriculum to foster a more holistic understanding of cultural and historical contexts.

The event continued with a series of felicitations. Ms. Raihanath Paramban (Head of the Arabic Department) congratulated the organizers and spoke about Premchand's global influence, particularly in the realm of Urdu literature. Mr. Basheer T (Assistant Professor, English) reflected on the significance of Premchand's works in contemporary literary studies, highlighting the universal themes that keep his stories relevant. Mr. Jasim M (Assistant Professor, English) discussed the pedagogical value of Premchand's narratives and how they can serve as a tool for exploring complex social issues.

The formal proceedings concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Hiba Zainab, a second-year student of Psychology. She expressed her gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and attendees for their contributions and enthusiasm in making the event a success.

The event also included a prize distribution ceremony for a poetry competition held in honor of Premchand Day. The winners were Hiba Zainab (2nd Psychology) who secured the 1st prize, and Renin K (2nd Sociology) who won the 2nd prize. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across various departments, showcasing their creative talents and engagement with literary arts.

The Literary Club and Oriental Languages Department extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event memorable. The observance of Premchand Day has reinforced the college's commitment to fostering a love for literature and cultural appreciation among its students.
