Green Vibes 2026: Noble Women’s College Marks World Environment Day with Green Action and Community Outreach

In observance of World Environment Day 2026, the PG Department of Computer Science at Noble Women’s College, Manjeri, organized Green Vibes 2026 – Session 1, a comprehensive environmental initiative aimed at promoting sustainability, ecological awareness, and community engagement.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Green Campus Cell, Nature & Biodiversity Club, IT Club, Climate Action Unit, Maths Club, Quiz Club, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), with active support from the NSS Unit. The event brought together students, faculty, and volunteers in a series of meaningful green activities designed to strengthen environmental responsibility both within and beyond the campus.

Developing Green Spaces: Live Hedges and Plant Maintenance

The first activity took place at the Fruit Valley of Noble Women’s College, where students and volunteers from the Nature & Biodiversity Club and NSS Unit participated in plant maintenance and the development of live hedges under faculty supervision.

As part of this initiative, Show Flower stems were planted strategically across selected areas to create live hedges, enhancing the greenery and ecological richness of the campus. This effort not only contributed to biodiversity conservation but also improved the natural landscape of the institution. The activity served as a practical lesson in sustainable environmental care and encouraged students to actively participate in campus greening initiatives.

Reboot the Earth: Raising Awareness on E-Waste

Extending the spirit of environmental stewardship beyond the campus, the second activity under Green Vibes 2026 was conducted at KPPM College of Teacher Education, Anakkayam. Titled “Reboot the Earth”, this E-Waste Awareness Programme focused on educating participants about the growing environmental challenges posed by electronic waste.

The awareness session was led by Ms. Miha Ashif V and Ms. Afla Kurikkal P.P., third-year BCA students of Noble Women’s College. They highlighted the importance of responsible disposal, recycling practices, and sustainable consumption of electronic devices. Informative pamphlets were distributed among participants to further spread awareness.

As a symbol of environmental commitment, tree saplings were also gifted to the host institution, reinforcing the message of sustainability and encouraging greener practices.

Sustaining Growth: Monitoring Previously Planted Saplings

The third phase of the programme was carried out at AMUP School, Pullancheri, where students undertook the monitoring and maintenance of saplings planted during earlier initiatives.

The team inspected the health of the plants, removed weeds, cleaned the surrounding areas, and provided the necessary care to support healthy growth. This activity emphasized that environmental conservation does not end with planting trees but requires continuous monitoring and maintenance to ensure long-term impact.

Building a Greener Future

Through a thoughtful combination of campus greening, environmental education, and community outreach, Green Vibes 2026 – Session 1 emerged as a meaningful and impactful celebration of World Environment Day.

By integrating practical ecological activities such as live hedge development, e-waste awareness, sapling distribution, and sapling monitoring, Noble Women’s College reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The initiative stands as a testament to the institution’s vision of nurturing environmentally conscious citizens and contributing towards a greener, healthier future.
